TINA'S COMING STRONG

So speaks Tina Barrett out of S Club. She may well have been out of the fame bubble for seven years now, but she hasn’t been idle in that time. No, not a bit of it.

Although Tina started off a dancer (more of which in a second…), her time in S Club gave her the taste for furthering a career in music. Obviously hanging out with Cathy Dennis rubbed off on her as Tina has been using her time away from the spotlight to travel around the world and hone her songwriting skills. She went to Canada to write with the Rezza Brothers, to Atlanta to work with Bonecrusher, and she’s been also been dealing with Beenie Man (“We talked on the phone for an hour. It was deep.”)

Now she’s finishing up a solo album with Ryan Laubscher. It’s coming out in February, it’s going to be soul, R&B and bluegrass influenced and she’s just about to start hitting the road and doing some more live shows.

She has now released a new Official Page on Facebook and has announced some big things, like a Promotional Tour which is coming in the next weeks. It’s been eight years since the TV pop phenomenon S Club 7 said goodbye. Since then, both Rachel and Jo had varying degrees of success with their solo careers, Jon became a West End star, Hannah's on the telly and Bradley & Paul... well, they’re probably fine. But whatever happened to the English/Guyanese brunette vision that was Tina Barrett? Well, she’s back. And she came to the Holy Moly office to tell her story...

HM: So, Tina. Where the hell have you been?
Tina: “Well, S Club was such a rollercoaster ride, an amazing five years of being thrust into the public eye. So when we split up I just wanted to have a bit of a break and do all the things I never got to do. Just being normal, really. I enjoyed that.

“But I’ve been doing a lot of songwriting and working with producers. I’ve been songwriting since I was eight years old. But after watching people like Cathy Denis, when I was in S Club, I picked up some things...
“I started working on the material that’s ready to release, three years ago. My stuff is completely different from S Club. People might be a little bit shocked when they hear it. I’ve been working with William Orbit and he’s a genius. It was a random thing; he knows a friend of mine and we got chatting at a party. And from there we made some tunes. He barely knew who S Club was.

“And I’m working with uber-cool artist Stuart Semple. He’s art directing all my videos and photoshoots. I like taking risks. I’m not saying I’m gonna copy Lady Gaga, because she’s in a league of her own. But I’ve got a little artistic edge to me that people haven’t seen.”

TINA TALKS TO CRAVEN GOSSIP

We all remember, know and love S Club 7! They made fantastic pop songs, great TV shows and made us all want to be in a band with 6 of our mates! Now, 8 years after they split up, Tina is launching a solo career and we were invited to her showcase at London's Met Bar.

Whilst the other members have all been doing their own things since the split, Tina has been the quietest out of the band, almost removing herself from the spotlight completely. Hannah is now more commonly known for her role in Primeval, Jon has done several West End shows, Rachel had a solo career, and Jo, Paul and Bradley tour as S Club Party, singing S Club's old hits. But Tina, well, things have been quiet on that front.

We didn't quite know what to expect from Tina's solo stuff. In S Club she was known as the dancer - who can forget that Tina's doing her dance - but Tina took to the stage and gave us a showcase of five songs she has written. And they were quite good. She sang Fire, Make Me Dance, I'll Be Your Woman, Hot Stuff and Soul Is Rising. Her sound was quite different to S Club, and her vocals reminded us of Duffy. If she was nervous, she hid it well, maybe because she had the support of her former bandmates, but Tina definitely showed that there was more to her then meets the eye.

After the performance, we sat down with Tina for a chat about her solo stuff - including the now famous Moon Child, S Club and why it's taken her 8 years to release...

Weird fledgling relationship alert! Muso DJ Calvin Harris is dating Tina Barrett formerly of S Club 7. Yep, you read that correctly. The pair were spotted flirting in a corner at the Hoxton Bar and Kitchen last Thursday. My source tells me: “Calvin’s friends are finding it amusing how into her he is. They looked really cute together and left holding hands.”

BMI has registered a new song written by Tina Barrett and Hakon Lumdby, which title is 'Camera Lights Action'. This is quite good as we haven't had so much going on with Tina. Last year, official statements from Tina and her managment said that the album was supposed to be released around this time this year. We don't know what happened, we hope news start to come soon, fingers crossed.

S CLUB 7 TO REUNITE AND SCORE Nº 1 HIT

S Club 7 have been tipped by bookies to follow in Take That’s footsteps by reforming and bagging a number one hit song this year.

The original line-up of the band, which broke up in 2003, were pictured just days ago together for the first time in years and now bookies have already slashed the odds of the group reuniting.

Ladbrokes are now offering odds of 5/4 of the band reforming for a live tour with all seven original members this year.

There are also 6/1 odds – down from 66/1 – that they will bag a number one single and 10/1 – down from 100/1 – that they will score a chart-topping album.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “New pictures have whipped S Club fans into a betting frenzy and the odds suggest the comeback might be on the cards.”

Strictly Come Dancing star Rachel Stevens and Primeval’s Hannah Spearritt met up with Tina Barrett, Bradley McIntosh, Paul Cattermole and Jo O’Meara to watch Jon Lee’s debut performance as Frankie Valli, the starring role in hit West End musical Jersey Boys this week.

It was the first time the entire group had been reunited in eight years.

S CLUB 7 REUNITED AT JON'S JERSEY BOYS PRESS NIGHT

They were the squeaky clean seemingly perpetual youngsters at the height of their fame - but S Club 7 showed that time waits for no man - nor manufactured pop act - last night. The band caught up with each other for the first time since their 2003 split to celebrate former member Jon Lee taking over the starring role of Frankie Valli in the smash hit West End musical Jersey Boys. For the first time in nine years, all seven originals reunited to try their best popstar poses again - but it was new mother Rachel, 32, who dazzled in a sparkly sequin dinner jacket and satin heels.

However, the attention was almost stolen from her by Paul Cattermole, 34, as the former teeny boppers lined up. He certainly showed he was more of a man nowadays when he got back together with his former bandmates after watch Jon perform onstage at the Prince Edward thetare.

Paul - who before S Club had various jobs including postman, butcher, theatre doorman, dustman and toilet cleaner - was actually first to leave the band when he quit in 2002 to join heavy metal band Skua. However, they failed to have much attention and in 2008, Paul together with bandmates Jo O'Meara, 31, of Celebrity Big Brother racism row notoreity and Bradley McIntosh, 29, got back together as S Club 3.

Most recently, they played a sell-out gig at the Universirty Of Hull on 18 March, a concert hailed by local media as 'the comeback of the century' and 'the best thing to happen to Hull since John Prescott starred in the Moneysupermarket.com adverts.'

Hannah Spearritt, 29, meanwhile has been busy bothering dinosaurs on ITV1's Primeval since the split, while Tina Barrett, 34, is apparently trying to launch her solo career. Rachel meanwhile, who had a successful solo career after groups disbanded, came second on Strictly Come Dancing in 2008, won rear of the year in 2009 and gave birth to her and businessman husband Alex Bourne's first child Amelie in November last year.

S Club 7 - masterminded by Spice Girls svengali and Simon Cowell's rival Simon Fuller - had a clutch of Number Ones throughout the UK and Europe - including classics Don't Stop Moving and Never Had A Dream Come True. They recorded a total of four studio albums, released eleven singles and went on to sell over seventeen million albums worldwide.

Jon began his West End odyssey in Jersey Boys on 15 March. He'll be alternating with Ryan Molloy who enters his fourth year in the multi award-winning show. Jon has a long history with the stage, and played the title role in Oliver! at the London Palladium when he was 13. Recently, he has starred in musicals including Les Miserables.

Thanks to Shadd who brought this to my attention, now we know some exciting news about Tina. A person close to her has created a new Twitter account, 'TinaBarrettNews', and there we'll find all the news about her future proyects. Just in the last 24 hours, we've found out that Tina has finished the recording of her much anticipated solo album and the first official news will come later in November. Here you have the tweets.
